Christopher Alexander（1936–2022），奥地利出生的建筑师、加州大学伯克利分校教授。剑桥大学数学与建筑学双学位，哈佛大学博士。著有《模式语言》《建筑的永恒之道》《秩序的本质》等，建造了超过200座建筑。他的思想直接启发了软件工程中的”设计模式”运动。
他的核心信念：世界是有生命的，设计的目的不是好看或好用，而是滋养生命。
兵器：The Quality Without a Name
有一种品质，你能感知到它，但你说不出它的名字。
走进一座哥特式教堂，或者一个日本茶室，或者你童年祖母的厨房——你感受到一种”对”的气息。那种完整的、活的、让你整个人放松下来的感觉。亚历山大花了毕生精力去描述它，最后承认：它无法被命名，但可以被识别，更可以被制造。
这不是审美偏好，是一种认知姿态：相信你感知到的”活”与”死”，比任何设计规则都更准确。
拆解
- 客观但不可言说——QWAN 是真实的、可测量的（通过人体生理反应），但它拒绝被装进任何形容词里。好建筑不是”漂亮”，是” alive”。
- 153个模式——他用”模式语言”把不可言说的品质翻译成可操作的设计单元：一个窗户、一处门廊、一条街道的宽高比。模式不是规则，是生成生命的种子。
- 你对了，它就在那里——检验一个设计不是看它是否符合规范，而是问：它有没有”那个品质”。如果你感受不到，没有任何专家能替你决定。
